The Monastery of Prophitis Ilias ( Santorini ), built in 1712, sits at the highest peak on the island. It is found between Pyrgos and Kamari villages amid rocky terrain and vineyards. The Monastery of Prophitis Ilias holds an important collection of rare ecclesiastical items, hand-written books and Byzantine icons. It also offers workshops on printing, shoe-making and candle making. The monks are also involved with wine making. From the yard of the Monastery, are breathtaking views of the whole island.
