Samothrace Greece

Samothrace in Greece, also called Samothraki, is basically the tip of a mountain rising out of the sea in the North Aegean. There are two main towns: Kamariotissa (the port) and Chora (the capital). There are only a few beaches accessible by car, but many accessible by hiking or by boat. The island has natural hot springs at Therma on the northern coast, streams, waterfalls, wetlands, mountain trails, ancient oak forests and lush vegetation. Also a must-see are the ancient ruins found in Sanctuary of the Great Gods in Palaiopoli. This is where the winged statue of Nike (now in the Louvre) was found in 1863. There is a popular music festival, usually held in August.
