Zagora ( Pelion ) is the biggest village in Pilion, located 47 km from Volos in an altitude of 480 meters. Amphitheater built, offers unhindered view to the Aegean sea and to the surrounded area. Most of the houses are traditionally built with stone. Worth visiting places is the Library where there are almost 18.000 books, among them some rare manuscripts and the oldest school founded in 18th century, called “The school of Riga” where Rigas Feraios studied, who is a hero of the Greek revolution. Visitors can taste traditional meals in the taverns scattered in the village. Every year, in early September, the local Women‘s Cooperative organizes the apple festival, for the famous Zagora apples considered the best of the kind. The ski resort is 20 km away for winter visitors. The nearest long sandy and well organized beach is Horefto which lies in 2,5 km.
