    Nicopolis Greece Epirus

    The community of Nicopolis ( Greece ) located in Epirus. The name means City of Victory and was built by the 1st Emperor of the Roman Empire Augustus to thank the gods after his victory in the Battle of Actium against Marc Antony and Cleopatra. The ruins of Nikopolis, lie about 5 km north of the modern city, on a small bay in the Gulf of Arta. In addition the Acropolis, there are two theaters (the larger with 77 rows of seats) and an aqueduct which brought water to the town from a distance of about 43 km.
