    Isthmus of Corinth Greece Peloponnese

The Isthmus of Corinth ( Greece ) is the narrow land bridge which connects the Peloponnese peninsula with the rest of the mainland of Greece. The word "isthmos" comes from the Ancient Greek word for "neck" and refers to the narrowness of the land. It was built at the narrowest point of the canal. To the west side there is the Gulf of Korinthos and the Saronic Gulf to the east.
