Saint John the Russian ( Evia Greece ) is located in the village of Prokopi, about 50 km northwest of Chalkida. The church houses the intact remains of the saint, and are the pride of the island. St. John was a soldier in Peter the Great's army. He was captured and taken to Constantinople and then to Prokopi where he endured inhumane torture. His own torturers proclamed him a saint. On May 27th, pilgrims from around the world trek from either the capital or from Limni to pay homage to the saint.
