Temple of Pythian Apollo Crete Greece

The Temple of Pythian Apollo ( Crete ) was the most important sanctuary of Gortyn during the Hellenistic period from the 7th century BC and has Doric columns. Between the columns are stone inscriptions showing the negotiations of Cretan cities with the Efmeni of Pergamon (2nd century BC). The temple was later converted (5th century AD) into a three-fold Christian basilica and a religious center until the construction of St. Titus. The Corinthian columns of the basilica are still visible.
