Deliana -- Mesavlia Gorge ( Crete ) is located about 35 km west of Chania. Its name was taken by the two villages (Deliana|Mesavlia). The locals have an argument about the true name of the gorge -- and you will see signs depicting this argument! You can begin the walk through the gorge from either the first village or the second village. The hike from Mesavlia to Deliana is about 5 km and takes about an hour. If you do the inverse, the total time will be a bit longer as it is more uphill. Either way, there is a dirt path, making the hike suitable for children. The best time of year to experience the gorge is during Spring because the vegetation is dense and the creek that runs through the gorge is flowing wonderfully. Near Mesavlia, there is a small church called Agia Paraskevi built into a hole in the rocks.
