Near the Greek-Bulgarian border, in the Rodopi Mountains in Thrace, is Achladovouno (means “pear mountain”). It is 1400 m high, and about a two hour hike to the top. The locals call the mountain, Tsal. The village of Komina sits at the base of Achladovouno, and it is surrounded by hazelnut and fruit trees. Leaving from Stavroupoli, driving over Achlodovouno, you can see birds of prey and have a breathtaking view of the valley of Xanthi.
